PARMA, Ohio — One of the greatest pitchers in Cleveland history is about to make his (virtual) return to Northeast Ohio.
Former Indians star CC Sabathia will take part in the Cuyahoga County Public Library's "Beyond the Book Jacket" series Thursday evening. The 19-year MLB veteran will be discussing his new book, "Till the End."
A former first-round draft pick, Sabathia made his debut for the Indians in 2001, and over the next eight seasons won 106 games, made three American League All-Star teams, and helped the Tribe to two AL Central division titles. In 2007, he became just the second pitcher in club history to take home the AL Cy Young Award, after he won 19 games and struck out 209 over an MLB-leading 241 innings pitched.
Sabathia was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008 before signing with the New York Yankees that offseason. He would make three more All-Star appearances over the next 11 years (all in the Bronx) and also earned ALCS MVP honors in 2009, en route to his only World Series championship. He retired in 2019 with 251 wins and 3,093 strikeouts, and is considered by most observers to be an eventual shoe-in for the Baseball Hall of Fame.

"Till the End" goes in-depth on Sabathia's major league career, but also his struggles with racism, addiction, and body image issues. The book is described as a "moving, universal story of resilience and mortality and discovering what matters."
The conversation will take place on Zoom starting at 7 p.m., but attendees still must purchase tickets in advance. Reservations start at $25 and can be purchased here, with all guests receiving a signed copy of "Till the End."
