On Friday, Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco revealed to a Dominican Republic news station that he has been diagnosed with leukemia.
As news of Carrasco's diagnosis spread, it didn't take long for support from players, fans, and even other teams to pour in for the 32-year-old, who said his condition is currently "under control."
In addition to their posts on social media, fans have begun a petition to have Carrasco throw out the first pitch at the MLB All-Star Game at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Tuesday.
"This will show that the whole city of Cleveland and all of Major League Baseball are behind him in this," the petition on Change.org reads. "Also raise awareness for leukemia in our society."
As of 1 p.m. on Saturday, the petition has garnered nearly 1,100 digital signatures.
