CLEVELAND — The good news for the Cleveland Indians is they are back home at Progressive Field for a 10-game homestand starting tonight against the Oakland Athletics.
Carlos Carrasco is back in the starting rotation after missing roughly three weeks of action when he was hit by a line drive to his elbow last month.
The bad news is the team is dealing with several other injuries of concern. According to manager Terry Francona, RF Lonnie Chisenhall will miss 'considerable time' after sustaining a calf injury on July 1 in Oakland.
Injuries have been a problem all season for the 29-year-old Chisenhall, who has had just 84 at-bats in 2018. He's hitting .321 with 1 home run and 9 RBI.
Chisenhall's injury is compounded by the fact that CF Bradley Zimmer is still out of action with a shoulder injury with no timetable for his return. The Indians have re-signed veteran outfielder Melky Cabrera to a minor-league deal. He will report to Class AAA Columbus.
Meanwhile, All-Star reliever Andrew Miller continues his rehab from knee inflammation. Francona told reporters that Miller threw 31 pitches off of a mound Thursday, but the plan is for him to continue to throw bullpen sessions only for now. Miller will not rejoin the Tribe until sometime after the All-Star break.
This season, the 6-foot-7, 205-pound Miller has thrown 14.1 innings in 17 appearances with 23 strikeouts against 10 walks and 13 hits for the Indians
