Cleveland Indians officially announce 25-man Opening Day roster

Hours ahead of first pitch, the Cleveland Indians officially announced their 25-man Opening Day roster for the 2018 season.

As expected, All-Star outfielder Michael Brantley, left-handed pitcher Ryan Merritt, right-handed pitcher Danny Salazar and infielder Gio Urshella will begin the year on the 10-day disabled list, which is retroactive to March 26. The Indians also officially announced that they have purchased the minor league contracts of veteran outfielder Rajai Davis and right-handed pitcher Matt Belisle.

Outfielder Abraham Almonte and right-handed pitcher Ben Taylor have been designated for assignment, while left-handed pitcher Jeff Beliveau, infielder Drew Maggi, right-handed pitcher Evan Marshall, catcher Jack Murphy and first baseman Mike Napoli have been assigned to Minor League camp.

The Indians will take the field for their 2018 season opener on the road against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night. First pitch is slated for 10 p.m. ET, with reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber taking the mound for the Tribe.
