Call him "Baby GOAT."
The Indians announced Friday they had signed 16-year-old infielder Jose Baez Ramirez to an amateur free agent contract. He is the younger brother of the Tribe's MVP caliber third baseman, Jose (Enrique) Ramirez. The move came just a day after Baez's birthday.
A native of Bani, Dominican Republic, Baez is listed at 5-foot-9, 146 pounds, and will work with the club's academy in that country. He is a switch hitter, just like the older Jose.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In addition to Beaz, Henyer Gomez (another 16-year-old infielder from the Dominican) was also signed.
