CLEVELAND — Editor's note: the video in the player above aired in a previous story.
It didn't take long into Thursday's matinee between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox to see that there isn't much love lost between the American League Central Division rivals.
After Adam Eaton attempted to stretch a single hit off of Indians starter Aaron Civale in the bottom of the first inning, the White Sox right fielder was thrown out at second base. Following his unsuccessful slide, it appeared Eaton took exception with the contact made by Andres Gimenez and proceeded to push Cleveland's shortstop.
The shoving only continued from there, with Indians second baseman Cesar Hernandez intervening and both team's benches ultimately clearing. No player or coach was ejected as a result of the kerfuffel.
Thursday's matchup between the Indians and White Sox marks the fourth in a four-game series. The series has been full of twists and turns, with Monday's game coming to an end when Cleveland first baseman Yu Chang committed a throwing error on a would-be double play, giving Chicago a walk-off 4-3 win.
Tuesday's matchup then saw Shane Bieber and Lucas Giolito engage in a pitching battle, with the Indians earning a 2-0 win in 10 innings. Then on Wednesday, Carlos Rodon threw a no-hitter, as the White Sox won an 8-0 game.
What will Thursday's series finale have in store? At this point, it's too early to tell. But a first-inning bench-clearing brawl certainly seemed appropriate considering the events of the series so far.
