CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Indians will need a starting pitcher Wednesday night for their series-finale against the Minnesota Twins at Progressive Field. Tribe fans may have to wait until Tuesday evening to find out exactly who that starter will be.
Right-hander Adam Plutko could get one more opportunity for the Tribe, but the 28-year-old has struggled since taking Mike Clevinger's spot in the starting rotation.
Meanwhile, Clevinger and Zach Plesac are still at the club's alternate training site in Lake County, but both could be eligible candidates if their teammates and the organization are willing to give them another opportunity after breaking team protocols on a road trip in Chicago two weeks ago.
There could be other options for the Tribe, but acting manager Sandy Alomar admitted prior to Monday's series-opener with the Twins that a decision will likely come by Tuesday for the next day's starting pitcher.
If Clevinger or Plesac do not get the nod Wednesday, it certainly could bring into play questions about their future with the big league club going forward.
