CLEVELAND — After being traded to the San Diego Padres on Monday, Mike Clevinger insisted there wasn't any bad blood between himself and the Cleveland Indians organization.
On Tuesday, the 29-year-old did his best to prove as much.
Taking to Twitter, Clevinger shared a three-minute and 12-second video titled "Yours truly, Sunshine." Produced by Watch Momentum -- which is owned by former Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer -- the video featured highlights from Clevinger's rise through the Indians organization, as the right-hander narrated the emotional farewell to both the team and the city of Cleveland, where he had played since 2016.
"As I sit here reflecting, I don't know where to begin. What this organization has done for me can't really be put into words. At a time where I felt lost, you traded for me. You guys trusted that one day, I could make an impact. And that will forever be held in my heart," Clevinger says.
The Jacksonville, Fla., native went on to detail his rise through the Indians' minor league system, as well as the birth of his first daughter, which came just days prior to his big league call up in 2016. After sharing a long list of farewells to teammates, members of the Indians organization and fans, Clevinger went on to state that his departure to San Diego wasn't a "goodbye," but a "see you later."
"Never have I ever felt so accepted -- not just as a player, but as a person," Clevinger says. "I've made so many good friends off the field and have had some of the best times of my life with a lot of you. I'll always remember the genuineness of the homies and how y'all had my back through thick and thin. From players, to the amazing training staff, to the clubbies and the people of 'The Land,' you have impacted my life forever and I thank you for that.
"This isn't a goodbye. This is a see you later. Yours truly, Sunshine."
