NEW YORK-- Major League Baseball officials are offering up new league-wide recommendations aimed at addressing possible issues with nettings separating fans from the baseball fields.

After a review conducted earlier this year, the commissioner's office is recommending each of the league's 30 teams should implement or maintain netting that will shield foul balls at all field-level seats located between the ends of dugouts and within 70 feet of home plate, according to a statement released Tuesday.

Officials are also encouraging teams to continue to warn fans about potential dangers posed by batted balls, along with educating game attendees on what seats aren't shielded by some type of protective netting.

"I am confident that this recommendation will result not only in additional netting at Major League ballparks but also draw additional attention to the need for fans who make the choice not to sit behind netting to be prepared for the possibility of foul balls and bats entering the stands," commissioner Robert Manfred said in the statement.
