CLEVELAND — Editor's note: the video in the player above is from Nov. 18, 2020.
When the Cleveland Cavaliers wear their City Edition uniforms this season, they'll be paying homage to Cleveland's Northeast Ohio roots.
On Thursday, the Cavs unveiled their new alternate uniforms, which come in partnership with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The black jersey top features "Cleveland" written across its chest with lettering from some of the most famous bands and artists in music history, as well as the phrase "Long live rock." The shorts, meanwhile, include a silhouette of the Cleveland skyline within a white guitar pick, as well as a large weathered “C” on one side and a collective of Cleveland badges "inspired by tour pins and jacket patches amplify the bond between the Cavaliers, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and THE LAND they both call home" on the other.
In conjunction with the uniform release, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in downtown Cleveland will feature an exhibit displaying Larry Nance Jr.'s City Edition jersey top, as well as some nods to basketball's connection to music. Additionally, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will use a gray City Edition-themed court with the weathered 'C' at halfcourt in the select games that the Cavs wear their City Edition uniforms.
Introduced by Nike in 2017, each NBA team's City Edition uniform is intended to "represent insights and emotion from the court to the upper deck to the cities’ streets, in pursuit of a unique way to capture each team and its city in a way that respects the past and present of the clubs while also positioning them for the future."
