As the Cleveland Cavaliers head toward the stretch run of the NBA regular season, they'll be without their All-Star center for the foreseeable future. On Monday, the Cavs announced that Jarrett Allen will be out indefinitely after suffering a fractured middle finger on his left hand.
Allen suffered the injury after in the first quarter of Cleveland's 104-96 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday. The 6-foot-10 big man underwent a CT scan at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health on Monday, which revealed his diagnosis.
According to a release from the Cavs, Allen will undergo additional evaluation and treatment for the injury. A timetable for his return has yet to be set for his return to basketball activities and his status will be updated by the team as appropriate.
Allen's injury comes in the midst of a career season, in which the Texas product has averaged 16.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 56 games. Last month, the 23-year-old was named to his first career All-Star Game when he was named as an injury replacement for James Harden.
Allen's breakout season has been one of the biggest reasons for Cleveland's emergence this season, with the Cavs laying claim to the sixth-best record in the Eastern Conference at 37-27. Without Allen in the lineup, Cleveland could rely on rookie big man Evan Mobley to play more minutes at center, as well as increased minutes for Kevin Love.
