CLEVELAND — For the seventh time in his career, and the fourth time as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell has been honored as the NBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
Mitchell led the Cavs to a perfect 4-0 record last week, capped off by his game-winning basket with 0.3 seconds left to help lift Cleveland to a 114-113 win at Milwaukee on Saturday night. For the week, Mitchell averaged 25.3 points on just under 51% shooting from the field in the Cavaliers' four victories.
In addition to his game-winner in Milwaukee, Mitchell also scored 25 points on Oct. 28 against the Knicks as he helped lead the Cavs back from 13 points down to win at Madison Square Garden. Two nights later, the 28-year-old Mitchell scored 24 points and dished out seven assists as the Wine and Gold beat LeBron James and the Lakers. Mitchell also posted 22 points in 22 minutes in a Nov. 1 victory over Orlando.
For the season, Mitchell is averaging a team-best 24.4 points on 50% shooting from the field, along with 2.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.43 steals in just 29.6 minutes per game.
The Cavaliers currently own an NBA-best 7-0 overall record to start the season. They'll look to tie the record for the best start in team history tonight when they have a rematch with the Bucks at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The last time the Cavs started so hot was during the 1976-77 season, when they jumped out to an 8-0 mark to begin the season.
