CLEVELAND -- Kevin Love's absence from the Cleveland Cavaliers remains an indefinite one.
On Tuesday, the team announced that it is still evaluating a course of action for treating the All-Star forward's sore left foot. Love, sporting a walking boot on his left foot, told reporters prior to the Cavs' Tuesday night matchup with the Atlanta Hawks that surgery has not yet been ruled out.
According to the team, Love has received consultation from Dr. Martin O’Malley at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
"A continuing treatment plan is being developed, including a timeline for his return to basketball activity," the Cavs said in a statement. "His status will be updated when his treatment protocol and return to play timeline is established."
After playing in the Cavs' first four games of the 2018-19 season, Love has now missed three consecutive contests as Cleveland remains the only winless team in the NBA with an 0-6 record. In four games, the 5-time All-Star averaged team-highs with 19.0 points and 13.5 rebounds, although he was shooting a career-low .325 from the field.
On Monday, ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Love could miss more than a month with his injury, which has officially been described as a "sore left foot." Later that day, Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman confirmed that while the team was still evaluating his status, there was the possibility that Love could miss an extended period of time.
In July, Love signed a 4-year, $120 million extension with the Cavs following the offseason departure of LeBron James.
