Cleveland Cavaliers sign veteran SG Danny Green

The deal is now official for Green, who was originally drafted by the Cavaliers in 2009.

CLEVELAND — Despite the Cleveland Cavaliers not making any trades before the deadline, the team still managed to improve its roster ahead of the NBA All-Star break. On Wednesday, the Cavs officially announced that they have signed veteran shooting guard Danny Green for the remainder of the season.

The Cavs' signing of Green was first reported earlier this week by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The 14-year pro also reportedly received interest from the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns after agreeing to a buyout with the Houston Rockets, who acquired him from the Memphis Grizzlies ahead of last week's NBA trade deadline.

Green, who was originally drafted as the 46th overall pick by the Cavs in 2009, has compiled an impressive career stat line shooting 38.9 percent from beyond the arc. Over the course of his career, Green has won NBA titles with the San Antonio Spurs (2014), Toronto Raptors (2019) and Lakers (2020).

The North Carolina product made his season debut on Wednesday, Feb. 1 for the Grizzlies against the Portland Trail Blazers after missing the start of the season due to a torn ACL from the 2022 NBA playoffs.

Green is expected to add depth to the wing position and reliable 3-point shooting for the Cavs as they look to make a run in the 2023 NBA playoffs.

Laying claim to a 38-22 record, Cleveland is currently riding a seven-game winning streak and sits in fourth place of the Eastern Conference. The Cavs will return to action on Wednesday night when they face the team Green played for in each of the previous two seasons, the Philadelphia 76ers.
