CLEVELAND — Editor's note: the Locked On Cavs video in the player above is from July 1.
Throughout the first full day of NBA free agency, the Cleveland Cavaliers have continued to bolster their bench. Hours after agreeing to terms with point guard Ricky Rubio and center Robin Lopez, the Cavs have signed a third player in guard Raul Neto, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Now entering his eighth season in the NBA, the 30-year-old Neto spent last two seasons playing for the Washington Wizards. Appearing in 70 games (19 starts) during the 2021-22 campaign, the Brazil native averaged 7.5 points and 3.1 assists in 19.6 minutes per game.
While Neto shot an underwhelming 29.2 percent from 3-point range last season, his career mark of 36.6 percent from long distance is an encouraging sign. Prior to his two seasons in Washington, the 2013 second-round pick spent four seasons with the Utah Jazz (2015-19) and one with the Philadelphia 76ers (2019-20).
In coming to Cleveland, Neto will likely serve as the primary backup point guard to Darius Garland while Rubio continues from the torn ACL that he suffered late-last December. Terms of Neto's contract with the Cavs have yet to be reported.
