CLEVELAND — Editor's note: the Locked On Cavs video in the player above is from June 1, 2022.
It's been five years since the Cleveland Cavaliers last unveiled their newest full-time uniforms. That means that per NBA rules, they are now eligible for another rebrand.
And while the team has yet to make an official announcement, two new logos that have popped up on the Cavs' website seem to indicate that they will be doing just that.
As first noted by Locked On Cavs' Evan Damarell, Cavs.com now features a rebranded version of the signature 'C' logo that the team has been using in various forms since the 2003-04 season. While the wine-colored new 'C' features the same font the franchise has been using for the previous 19 years, it includes a metallic gold drop shadow -- a color the team hasn't used since replacing it with a more yellow-like gold following the 2009-10 season.
In addition to the newly shaded 'C,' the team's official team shop website now displays a logo featuring the 1980s-styled script 'Cavs' with the 'V' doubling as a basketball hoop, in a font similar to the one the team has been wearing since its last rebrand in 2017. The script also features accents reminiscent of the 1990s black and blue Cavs' uniforms, which the team wore as a throwback during the 2019-20 season.
As for a launch date for any potential new Cavs gear, it's worth noting that the hats for the 2022 NBA Draft will soon be released.
