CLEVELAND — Editor's Note: The video above is from a story on protests across the country after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
The Cleveland Cavaliers organization announced Monday that they will cover all out of state costs for reproductive health care for its employees.
Through a statement released by Zack Yohman, Director of Business & Strategic Communication, the Cavaliers announced they "believe having full access to reproductive health care is a fundamental freedom of choice all women should have."
This statement covered not only the Cleveland Cavaliers but the Cleveland Monsters, Cleveland Charge, Cavs Legion, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and Rock Entertainment Group employees.
This is in response to the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court last Friday to overturn Roe v. Wade. This decision sparked protests nationwide in support for the freedom of choice to abortion procedures protected by Roe v. Wade at the federal level of government.
The NBA and WNBA have been at the forefront of support for reproductive rights since the decision was reached to overturn Roe v. Wade last Friday.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert released a joint statement in support for freedom of choice for not only all of the leagues employees, but women across the nation.
Athletes from around the world have also been vocal in their support of reproductive rights including Akron native and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.
