We already knew that Collin Sexton would be wearing No. 2 -- the same jersey that Kyrie Irving used to occupy with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
But as it turns out, that won't be the only similarity between the Cavs' new point guard and their former one.
With the 2018-19 NBA season set to kick off on Tuesday night, Nike has revealed new custom sneakers, which will be worn by select first and second-year players during the league's opening week. Among the players to design his own kicks is Sexton, who will wear a customized NikeiD version of the 'Kyrie 4' signature shoe.
Titled "Different," Sexton's shoe features an eye-popping colorway consisting of red, royal blue, neon green and purple, as well as a gold swoosh. The tongues will feature the first initial of both his mother and father written in gold, with the sneaker's design having been inspired by his parents, "who always encouraged Sexton to find his own path."
Since arriving in Cleveland as the No. 8 pick in the NBA Draft this past summer, Sexton has downplayed any comparisons between himself and Irving, who is now a member of the Boston Celtics.
“I’m not following in [anybody's] footsteps," Sexton insisted at Cavs media day last month. "I’m going to come in and play my game.”
Although he will begin the season coming off the bench, backing up starter George Hill, the 19-year-old Sexton is expected to play a prominent role for the Cavs in his rookie season. In four preseason games, Sexton averaged 9.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists, following what was a standout showing in the NBA Summer League.
The Cavs will kickoff the 2018-19 NBA season on Wednesday when they hit the road to face the Toronto Raptors. Sexton's shoe is already available via Nike.com with a retail price of $140.
