Donovan Mitchell signs 3-year, $150.3 million contract extension with Cleveland Cavaliers: Report

The reported contract also includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.

CLEVELAND — All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell is here to stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers as he's reportedly signed an extension with the team.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Mitchell and the Cavaliers have agreed on a three-year, $150.3 million maximum contract. The contract also includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.

The deal comes a day after the Cavaliers introduced Kenny Atkinson as their next head coach.

Wojnarowski also reported that Mitchell's commitment to the deal comes "with his confidence in Koby Altman’s vision to keep building the Cavs into a championship contender and an alignment on their partnership together."

When reports of Mitchell's contract extension broke, he took to social media posting the following on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Mitchell is coming off a stellar 2023-24 season, averaging 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. In addition, Mitchell shot an impressive 46.2% from the field and 36.8% from beyond the arc.

The University of Louisville product guided the Cavs to the NBA Playoffs for the second straight year, before the team fell to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Locking up the 27-year-old Mitchell has been a focal point for the Cavaliers as they continue to work their way towards becoming a championship contender. The Cavs made their first significant move in the offseason by firing head coach J.B. Bickerstaff following the team's playoff exit.

In terms of the roster, the Cavaliers have yet to make any significant moves during the offseason, aside from the addition of Jaylon Tyson, whom the team picked in Round 1 of the 2024 NBA Draft.
