LeBron James reacts to Cleveland Cavaliers trading for Donovan Mitchell

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, LeBron James weighed in on the Cleveland Cavaliers' trade to acquire Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz.

CLEVELAND — It's been more than four years since LeBron James has been a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

But that didn't stop the four-time NBA MVP from weighing in on his former franchise's blockbuster trade.

Moments after ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski first reported that the Cavs have acquired All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz, one of James' friends, "Cuffs The Legend," took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the trade.

"The Cavs were already fun to watch last season," he wrote. "They have all the pieces to contend now. Garland x Spida is TOUGH!"

It didn't take long for James to respond in agreement, replying with a tweet that stated: "SO TOUGH!!!!! Super Dope."

James' tweet has already fueled online speculation that the four-time NBA champion could be eying a return to Cleveland. It's worth noting that while James recently signed an extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, he has a player option that could allow him to become a free agent following the 2023-24 NBA season.

That offseason happens to be the same year that James' oldest son, Bronny James, is projected to be eligible to declare for the NBA Draft. Speaking to Jason Lloyd of The Athletic earlier this year, the 37-year-old expressed his desire to finish his career playing alongside Bronny, who currently ranks as the nation's No. 41 player in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports.

“My last year will be played with my son,” James said. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”

As for the Cavs, they're focused on the present, which now includes a core featuring Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. It is worth noting that while Cleveland traded three unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps to Utah as a part of its package to acquire Mitchell, it still maintains its rights to its first-round pick in 2024.
