CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly locked up one of their young core pieces to a long-term contract on Thursday night.
The New York Times' Mark Stein reports that the Cavs have agreed to a four-year, $31 million contact extension with forward Cedi Osman.
According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the final year of the contract extension is nonguaranteed.
The 24-year-old Osman is beginning his third season as a member of the Wine and Gold. In 2018-19, Osman played in 76 games for the Cavs, starting 75 of them. He averaged 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. He was selected for the 2019 Rising Stars Challenge as a member of the World Team during NBA All-Star Weekend.
Osman scored 13 points in 29 minutes during the Cavaliers' season-opening loss in Orlando on Wednesday night.
The Cavaliers are starting season two of the post-LeBron James era and are counting on Osman to team with fellow youngsters Larry Nance, Jr., Collin Sexton, and 2019 first-round picks Darius Garland, Dylan Windler and Kevin Porter Jr., as part of a new core of talent for the future.
