We now have clues as to what the "detrimental conduct" was that got Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith suspended for one game.
According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin and Brian Windhorst, Smith threw a blow of soup at assistant coach Damon Jones prior to Thursday night's contest against the Philadelphia 76ers. The pair cited "multiple sources with knowledge of the incident." The story was later confirmed by Tom Withers at the Associated Press.
Recent addition Rodney Hood started in Smith's place, tallying 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in the Cavs' 108-97 loss.
Head coach Ty Lue would not comment on what led to Smith's sudden suspension, although he did claim the 13-year veteran would be back at practice on Friday before returning to the starting lineup for Saturday night's matchup with the Denver Nuggets. The AP also reports Smith will talk to the media prior to tomorrow night's game.
Jones, who previously played three seasons in Cleveland and helped the team reach the 2007 NBA Finals, rejoined the organization as a shooting consultant in 2014 before being promoted to full-time assistant two years later.
