Report: Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell out for Game 5 at Boston Celtics due to calf strain

The Cavaliers are on the brink of elimination from the playoffs, trailing the Celtics 3-1 in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Semifinals.

CLEVELAND — It appears that the Cleveland Cavaliers will be without superstar guard Donovan Mitchell tonight as they look to stay alive in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Celtics in Boston.

According to Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic, Mitchell will miss his second straight game due to a calf strain that he suffered late in Game 3 on Saturday night in Cleveland.

The Cavaliers come into tonight's Game 5 at TD Garden trailing the Celtics 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Mitchell, a five-time All-Star, averaged 31.7 points per game in the series, while making 53.3% of his 3-pointers. Over his last five playoff games, Mitchell averaged 36.8 points, including a 50 point performance in a Game 6 loss to Orlando in the first round. He averaged 29.6 points for the entire postseason.

The Cavaliers have also played their last seven playoff games without center Jarrett Allen, who has been sidelined due to a rib injury.

Without Mitchell and Allen, the Cavaliers fell 109-102 to Boston in Game 4 on Monday night at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
