If there's anybody who can understand what Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue is going through, it may be his rival, Steve Kerr. Last year, the Golden State Warriors head coach missed a significant portion of the regular season and playoffs to focus on his health.
On Monday, Lue announced that he would be taking a leave of absence from the Cavs, to focus on issues including chest pains and sleep deprivation. More than 1,400 miles away, in San Antonio, Kerr offered his condolences to Lue, who he has coached against in each of the past two NBA Finals.
"I feel for Ty," Kerr said at his team's shootaround, ahead of their Monday night matchup against the San Antonio Spurs, per Mark Medina of The Mercury News. "We've been in contact. Your health is everything. This game is fun and it's exciting and we all love our jobs, but we just want to be healthy.
"He's a great guy. He's a great representative for their team and the league and we just want him back."
Kerr wasn't the only one to wish Lue well on Monday, as the Cavs' third-year coach received an outpouring of support on social media.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Lue's absence from the team is not expected to be long term.
