CLEVELAND -- After being acquired in a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers at the NBA trade deadline, it didn't take long for Jordan Clarkson to become a fan favorite among Cleveland Cavaliers fans.
Making his Cavs debut in a nationally televised matchup with the Boston Celtics on Feb. 11, Clarkson scored 17 points and sank three 3-pointers in what was a 121-99 blowout victory for his new team. After each long-distance make, Clarkson made the universal 3-point gesture with both hands, before pointing to his right elbow with his left arm.
By game's end, LeBron James had caught on and the celebration only gained steam from there. In his second game with Cleveland -- another nationally televised victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder -- the camera caught Clarkson repeating the celebration, this time alongside J.R. Smith.
Clarkson, who spent three-plus seasons with the Lakers before arriving in Cleveland earlier this month is no stranger to celebrations. A quick Google search will show that the 25-year-old has a flair for the dramatic, particularly after sinking 3-point shots.
This celebration, however, is a new one, not previously shown during his days as one-half of the "Swag Bros" with former Lakers teammate D'Angelo Russell. On Wednesday, the Cavs' new combo guard explained the origins of his new gesture of choice.
"It's just something I kind of do. I feel like it's like sticking a fork in the other guy," Clarkson told reporters following practice. "It's just something that kind of came naturally. Just coming here -- I don't know, it just came."
Clarkson's actions have caught on, with local t-shirt companies already commemorating the celebration.
On Thursday night, he'll make his home debut in Cleveland when the Cavs host the Washington Wizards at 8 p.m. If his first two games with his new team are any indication, he won't be the only one busting out his new celebration inside of The Q.
