LOS ANGELES — The 2024 NBA Draft is more than a year away and isn't even the next upcoming draft on the league's schedule.
Still, many basketball fans have found themselves looking ahead to June of next year, as that's when LeBron James' son, Bronny James, will be eligible to join his famous father in the NBA.
And while Bronny's status as an NBA prospect has been the status of debate dating back to even his childhood, the 18-year-old appears to be peaking at the right time. So much so that ESPN analyst Jonathan Givony now projects the 6-foot-3 combo guard to be selected in the top 10 of the 2024 draft.
"Bronny James is now a projected top-10 pick thanks to the significant jump he's made at Sierra Canyon, developing into arguably the best perimeter defender in his class while making strides with his shooting and playmaking," Givony tweeted of James, who is currently in his senior season at Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles.
A consensus four-star prospect, James currently ranks as the class of 2024's No. 33 overall player according to the 247Sports composite. While he has yet to make a decision on where he'll be spending his college career, he has reportedly narrowed his decision down to between Southern California, Oregon and Ohio State.
After spending one season in college, James will then be eligible to enter the 2024 NBA Draft -- and he may not be the only member of his family to be acquired by whichever team picks him. On multiple occasions, his father, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, has discussed his desire to play alongside Bronny once he enters the league.
“My last year will be played with my son,” James told The Athletic's Jason Lloyd last year. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”
