PHOTOS | In honor of Kobe Bryant, 3News viewers submit their #girldad pictures

In addition to being one of the NBA's greatest players, Bryant was a proud father of four daughters and always liked to refer to himself as a 'girl dad.'

CLEVELAND — Kobe Bryant was certainly one of the fiercest competitors the NBA ever saw.

He also was a proud father of four daughters and always liked to refer to himself as a 'girl dad.'

Bryant and his daughter Gianna were killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday, along with seven other people as they were making their way to a travel basketball game. One of the final acts Kobe and Gianna performed before the crash was to go to church and take communion.

"He was here before the 7 a.m. mass and that's our first mass of the day. So he would obviously have been in the prayer chapel before that and he was leaving about 10 to 7," Father Steve Sallot told KABC.

The crash happened at about 9:45 a.m. near Los Angeles.

On Monday evening, ESPN's Elle Duncan shared this incredibly moving story about Kobe Bryant and the love he had for his daughters during SportsCenter.

Since then, men all over the country and the world have been taking to social media, posting pictures with their daughters using the hashtag #girldad as a way of honoring the NBA legend.
