'The king of NBA scoring': 3News' Dave Chudowsky reacts to LeBron James breaking scoring record

'Today is a day we can be proud to say the all-time leading scorer in the NBA is from Akron.'

AKRON, Ohio — It's official! LeBron James has broken the NBA record for scoring the most total points after bringing his career total to 38,388 Tuesday night.

His achievement topples the record previously held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar that was held for nearly four decades.

Although the moment happened as James was playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, so many of those points were scored while he played for the Cleveland Cavaliers -- and we are so happy to have been part of the record-breaking journey.

"I’m 47 years old and grew up a diehard of all the local teams," 3News' Dave Chudowsky said Wednesday morning on GO! "I have seen one championship, one parade, and James delivered it to us."

And it was all done by the kid from Akron.

"Today is a day we can be proud to say the all-time leading scorer in the NBA is from Akron," Chudowsky continued. "He brought us so many memories. I covered LeBron since he was in high school. I’ll never forget the years covering him on the road from 2014 to 2018. It was like covering a rock star. Remember the Sports Illustrated cover of the chosen one? I can’t remember an athlete that had as much pressure to deliver, to live up to the expectations as LeBron James – and he did. By miles. The shot, the letter, the block. Now King James is the king of NBA scoring, and we are lucky that we have been a part of it.”

Congratulations, LeBron. Northeast Ohio is so proud of you!
