AKRON, Ohio — It’s finally here!
Nike is unleashing its latest pair of LeBron James shoes Tuesday morning – but this time the footwear has an Akron focus.
The “I PROMISE” shoes reflect the mission James initiated right here in Northeast Ohio.
“When LeBron James committed to revolutionizing education in his hometown, he knew it would require commitment,” Nike says on their site.
The shoe features the LeBron James Family Foundation crown on the tongue with motivational phrases on the laces, including "I promise I will work hard" and "I promise I will dream big."
The colorful shoes, which go on sale at 10 a.m., are priced at $200.
"Nike supports the mission of the I PROMISE School through a charitable donation to the LeBron James Family Foundation," the company said.
Last November, James made headlines when he announced the new "I PROMISE Village" that will provide transitional housing for students and their families of the Akron school. It is expected to be fully operational by the start of next school year in July of 2020.
The I PROMISE School, which opened in 2018, is part of the Akron Public School District.
