HOLLAND, Mich. — Another successful season for Baldwin Wallace came to an unfortunate end Friday with a 57-43 loss to Wartburg College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament.
Playing at a neutral site in Holland, Michigan, the Yellow Jackets took a one-point lead early in the second half, but were done in by a 14-0 Knights run. Cheri Harrer's squad also shot a dismal 24.5% from the field.
Kira Philpot led 22nd-ranked BW (22-6) with 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench, but she was the only member of the team to get into double figures. Leading scorer Emily Irwin was held to only nine points on just 1 of 12 shooting.
Britney Young carried No. 24 Wartburg (22-6) with 15 points on five 3-pointers along with five boards. Jaedon Murphy also scored 12 while Macy Harris hauled in seven rebounds and dished out seven assists.
This marks the first time Baldwin Wallace has lost its opening tournament game since 2015. Wartburg College will now face site host Hope College, ranked seventh in the country, in Saturday's second round.
