CLEVELAND — The Cleveland State Vikings men's basketball team is moving on to the next round of the College Basketball Invitational.
The Vikings took down the Northern Colorado Bears by a score of 51-49 on Saturday in Daytona Beach, Fla.
After trading the lead back and forth early in the game, Cleveland State went on a run and held Northern Colorado scoreless for nearly five full minutes before halftime and went into the break leading by eight.
The Vikings would maintain that lead for the rest of the game, pulling ahead by as much as nine points with six minutes remaining in the contest. The Bears did not go away quietly though, clawing within one possession in the final moments of the game.
Cleveland State shot 33.9% from the field and 26.7% from beyond the 3-point line. Northern Colorado, meanwhile, struggled to hit threes, going a dismal 2 of 23, or 8.7%.
Senior Tristan Enaruna led the scoring for the Vikings with 22 points and 10 rebounds. The senior shot made 8 of his 16 field goals and went 4 of 5 on free throws.
With the first-round victory, Cleveland State moves on to the quarterfinals of the post-season invitational. They will square off against top-seeded High Point University (NC) on Monday at noon.
