OBERLIN, Ohio — Kevin Beans Jr. hit what turned out to be the game-winning shot and Hiram ended up beating Oberlin 76-70 Saturday night despite blowing a big second-half lead.
The Terriers (5-9, 2-6 NCAC) led by as many as 19 before the Yeomen went on a 34-14 run to go ahead by one with 1:38 to play. But on the next possession, Beans hit a layup as he got fouled before completing the 3-point play, the start of a 7-0 run that gave Hiram its second win in three contest.
Beans led the team with 22 points and Brodgie Gordon added 17. The Terriers' second-half struggles were highlighted by shooting 1 of 9 from 3-point range, compared to 5 of 12 in the first half.
Western Reserve grad Dorde Otasevic led Oberlin (5-10, 3-6) with 28 points and seven rebounds. Despite this, the Yeomen lost the battle on the glass, 40-30.
Hiram will hit the road to play Wittenberg next Saturday afternoon, while Oberlin will host Allegheny College on Wednesday.
