KENT, Ohio — *EDITOR'S NOTE: The above video is from a previous, unrelated story.
Solon native Sincere Carry matched his career-high with a season-high 32 points as Kent State defeated Akron 67-55 Friday night.
Cleveland Central Catholic alum Tervell Beck had 11 points for the Golden Flashes (8-8, 3-3 MAC), who snapped a two-game losing streak as well as a three-game skid against the Zips that dated back to March of 2020. KSU also out-rebounded UA 40-29, with Malique Jacobs leading the way with seven boards.
Besides losing the battle on the glass, Akron (9-5, 2-2) also had a woeful night shooting, making just 35% of their total attempts from the field and only 17% from 3-point range. Xavier Castaneda had 21 points for the Zips, but what was a close game midway through the second half quickly got away with a 23-10 Flashes run.
Kent State will next face Eastern Michigan on the road Tuesday night, while Akron will be at Central Michigan during the same time.
