Cleveland Heights alum Yahel Hill had 15 points off the bench to lift Cleveland State to a 64-61 win over Youngstown State Friday night and put the Vikings back in sole possession of first place in the Horizon League.
A 3-pointer by D'Moi Hodge gave CSU (12-4, 8-1 Horizon League) a 62-52 lead with 3:59 remaining and the team held on to win despite not scoring again until Tre Gomillion beat the final buzzer with a dunk. The Vikes as a whole got half of their points from their reserves, including 12 from Chris Greene.
Holy Name grad Dwayne Cohill had 20 points and six rebounds for YSU (10-9, 4-5), which lost for the fourth time in its last five games. Following their 9-0 rally, the Penguins had one last chance to win it with five seconds left, but Torrey Patton took a charge from Cohill that turned the ball over and set up Gomillion's slam.
With six wins in its last seven outings since a long COVID pause, defending conference champ Cleveland State will be right back at the Wolstein Center Sunday afternoon when it hosts Robert Morris.
