ASHLAND, Ohio — Sha Carter scored 24 point and hauled in eight rebounds and Tuslaw grad Maci Sayles had a double-double as Walsh secured a major 83-76 overtime upset over No. 1 Ashland Thursday afternoon.
The Cavaliers (22-3, 17-2 G-MAC) trailed by six at the half before a third-quarter burst put them ahead. After blowing a nine-point advantage to force OT, Carter and Middleburg Heights native Lexi Scarton combined to score 17 points in the extra period to help Walsh pull away.
North Canton product Annie Roshak had 24 points and nine boards against her hometown school, but Ashland (22-2, 17-1) squandered a four-point overtime lead when Walsh went on an 11-2 run. The loss snapped the Eagles' 19-game winning streak.
Despite the defeat, Ashland still controls its own destiny for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship and the conference tournament's top seed. The Eagles will head to Malone Saturday afternoon, while Walsh will take its 14-game winning streak to Tiffin on the same day.
