Despite multiple days of speculation, the 2021 NFL Trade Deadline came and passed without the Cleveland Browns dealing away Odell Beckham Jr.
Instead, it appears that the Browns will keep Beckham, who has failed to build consistent on-field chemistry with quarterback Baker Mayfield through his first two-and-a-half seasons in Cleveland. The disconnect between Beckham and Mayfield has only been amplified in recent days after the three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver caught just one pass on one target for six yards in the Browns' 15-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Hours ahead of Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, Beckham's father, Odell Beckham Sr., posted an 11-minute and 24-second long video clip of Mayfield missing his son on various throws throughout the 2021 season to his verified Instagram account. The older Beckham also wasn't shy to reply to comments on his post, agreeing with criticisms of Mayfield on multiple occasions.
Shortly after Beckham Sr.'s post, Beckham's friend and NBA superstar LeBron James took to Twitter to encourage the Browns to part ways with the 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
"OBJ will show again why he’s special. WR1 #FreeOBJ," James tweeted.
The Browns, however, ultimately didn't listen to the four-time NBA MVP and -- at least for now -- will continue to rely on Beckham as they look to bounce back from their disappointing 4-4 start to the 2021 campaign.
