INDIANAPOLIS — Quarterbacks will be among the positions to take the field for workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday.
With that in mind, let's take a look at five signal-callers the Cleveland Browns could be keeping an eye on in Indianapolis.
Malik Willis, Liberty
In a quarterback class considered by many experts to be weak compared to past years, Malik Willis stands out as one of the most intriguing prospects. After originally enrolling at Auburn, the former 3-star prospect transferred to Liberty ahead of the 2019 season.
In two seasons with the Flames, Willis established himself as one of the country's most dynamic players. While he still needs to add polish as a passer, his speed and arm strength give him a rare set of tools that could make him the first quarterback taken in this year's draft.
Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh
When it comes to quarterbacks who will be ready to start as rookies in this year's class, Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett might be the best bet. A four-year starter in college who will be 24-years-old when the 2022 NFL season starts, the 2021 Heisman Trophy finalist possesses no shortage of experience.
While some have raised concerns about Pickett's hand size, there's no questioning his production, as he completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 4,319 yards, 42 touchdowns and just seven interceptions in his senior season. Measuring in at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds with above-average mobility and good -- but not great -- arm strength, Pickett fits the mold of the modern quarterback.
Matt Corral, Ole Miss
Matt Corral isn't expected to work out on Thursday, as he continues to recover from an ankle injury that he suffered in Ole Miss' bowl game, but the 2021 second-team All-SEC selection remains an intriguing prospect nonetheless.
In two seasons under the direction of Lane Kiffin, Corral thrived for the Rebels, completing 69.4 of his pass attempts while averaging 3,343 yards, 24.5 touchdowns and 9.5 interceptions from 2020-21. While he doesn't possess ideal size (6-foot-1, 205 pounds), his athleticism (614 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 2021) has helped him compensate.
Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati
One of the most intriguing quarterbacks in this year's class comes in the form of Desmond Ridder, who like Pickett, has four seasons of experience as a starter at the college level under his belt. That includes a 2021 campaign in which he helped lead Cincinnati to the first appearance in the College Football Playoff by a non-Power Five school.
At 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, Ridder matches good size with even better athleticism. Despite great arm strength, however, the 2-time AAC Offensive Player of the Year could stand to improve his accuracy before becoming a starter at the next level.
Sam Howell, North Carolina
Publicly, the Browns have remained committed to Baker Mayfield. But could they also have interest in a quarterback who has drawn comparisons to their current starter?
In three seasons as the starter at North Carolina, Sam Howell has done just that, matching an above-average passing prowess and even better mobility with unquestioned leadership. While -- like Mayfield -- the 6-foot-1, 220-pound Howell doesn't possess ideal size, his intangibles could make him an intriguing prospect to teams looking for a developmental quarterback in the early rounds of the draft.
