ELYRIA, Ohio — 'Tis the season.
With the holiday season underway, Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield and his wife and 3News contributor Emily Mayfield are giving back. On Monday night, the couple hosted their annual 'Passing the Joy' event at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio’s Elyria South Club, where they distributed gift bags to about 75 Club members from Elyria and Wellington, in conjunction with partners Meijer and BODYARMOUR.
3News Chief Meteorologist Betsy Kling was live on the scene for the holiday party during Monday night's "What's New" at 5 p.m. There were also "unconfirmed rumors" of a snowball fight that she dug into!
Prior to Monday's event, Baker and Emily were shopping for gifts, gift cards and party goods at a local Meijer to provide gifts for 900 Club kids. This marks the second straight year the Mayfields have participated in such a shopping spree and the fourth year that they have hosted their "Passing the Joy" dating back to Baker's rookie season with the Browns in 2018.
The gifts and food for Monday's event were purchased compliments of Meijer, BODYARMOR, Camwood Capital Group and the Mayfields. The additional gifts to the other Club members throughout Northeast Ohio will be delivered separately.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio aims to provide "safe, fun places for kids ages 6-18 to go after school with a focus on academic success, healthy lifestyles and character development."
