PITTSBURGH — Officially, the Cleveland Browns are currently tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But the Browns may have headed to their locker room at halftime having suffered a significant loss.
On what would mark the Browns' final offensive drive before halftime, quarterback Baker Mayfield ran to the locker room holding his right hand after appearing to have hit it on the helmet of Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree. The play occurred with 16 seconds remaining in the second quarter and resulted in backup Garrett Gilbert throwing the final two passes of the half for the team.
The severity of Mayfield's injury, as well as his availability for the remainder of the game, is currently uncertain.
Should Mayfield's injury force him to miss time, Gilbert is currently the only other active quarterback on the Cleveland roster. Wide receiver Jarvis Landry is the team's emergency quarterback.
At halftime, the Browns remain tied with the Steelers 10-10. Before leaving the game, Mayfield had completed 10 of his 17 pass attempts for 98 yards and a touchdown.
