'Off the leash': Baker Mayfield licenses t-shirts commemorating matchup vs. Cleveland Browns

A new officially licensed Baker Mayfield t-shirt commemorates his upcoming matchup vs. the Cleveland Browns.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns' matchup vs. the Carolina Panthers is one of the most highly anticipated games of Week 1 of the NFL season. And Baker Mayfield has a new t-shirt commemorating the occasion.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, Mayfield announced a new run of officially licensed t-shirts being sold by Glory Days Apparel. One of the shirts, in particular, is sure to catch the eye of Browns fans, as it celebrates the now-Carolina Panthers quarterback's upcoming matchup vs. his former team.

"Off the leash," the vintage concert-style t-shirt reads, while also referencing the Week 1 matchup between Carolina and Cleveland as "One day only."

The shirt -- which is available for $38 -- also depicts a smiling Mayfield in a cowboy hat with his signature No. 6, along with a broken dog collar, which could be construed as a reference to the Browns' Dawg Pound.

Mayfield's new t-shirt will likely only add fuel to what is shaping up to be a heated Week 1 matchup between the former No. 1 pick and the team he spent the first four seasons of his career with. Earlier this week, the Oklahoma product found himself at the center of controversy after NFL Network analyst Cynthia Frelund shared on a podcast that Mayfield told her "I'm going to f--- them up" when discussing his upcoming showdown with the Browns.

Mayfield has denied making the comment and Frelund has since stated that the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner was merely agreeing with her own sentiments. Nevertheless, it didn't take long for the comment to make its way to Cleveland, with Browns All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett admitting the team will use it as bulletin board material.

"I know he has that swagger, that confidence that borders on arrogance in some people’s eyes,” Garrett said, according to the Associated Press. “But he’s always played with a chip on his shoulder, and I think we have as an organization as well. So however he feels or goes about it in his mind scape to prepare for the game to play us at the highest level for him, it’s whatever.

“Of course, we’ll use it. It will be motivation. It will be fuel. But at the end of the day a guy is going to do anything he can to try and get one thousandth of a percent better, and if it takes that to hype him up or us using it to hype us up, it’s all going to add to the fire for both teams.”
