Two years ago, Baker Mayfield was preparing to be the No. 1 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
But as the eyes of the football world turned toward Thursday night's NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns quarterback had his mind elsewhere, sending a message to essential grocery store workers amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
"Hey everybody, hope you're staying safe and doing the best you can during these trying times. I wanted to give a special shoutout to all of our grocery store workers and employees providing food for those in need," Mayfield says. "You guys are working the front lines, so I thank you for that."
Mayfield then went on to encourage the general public to practice safe physical distancing, including wearing masks and gloves while shopping.
"With that being said, I just wanted to give a little piece of advice for everybody to shop smart," Mayfield said. "Wear your masks, protect yourselves and others, protect those workers that are in there each and every day restocking the shelves. Wear your gloves and abide by all the social distancing rules: six-feet apart at least, wash your hands, just be courteous. Because there's a lot of people that are sacrificing a lot just for us to be able to live somewhat normal lives during these teams. So guys, shops smart please. And thank you to those workers once again."
