Browns' Baker Mayfield named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after win vs. Bengals

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has been named the AFC Player of the Week following his 5-touchdown performance vs. the Cincinnati Bengals.

CLEVELAND — After throwing an interception on the Cleveland Browns' opening offensive series for the second time in as many weeks, it looked like Baker Mayfield's showing against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday might end with a loss.

Instead, Mayfield's Week 7 performance resulted in some new hardware, with the Browns quarterback being named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Despite failing to complete any of his first five pass attempts, the No. 1 pick of the 2018 NFL Draft bounced back to throw a Browns franchise record 21 completions for 297 yards and five touchdowns. Of his five scores, Mayfield saved his best for last, finding rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones for a 24-yard touchdown pass with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to give Cleveland a 37-34 victory and advance the Browns' record to 5-2.

“I think this game could have given this offense confidence to realize we can believe and trust in everybody," Mayfield said after the game. "We always have a chance if we believe in that. It was the most important game to date because it was the next one. Right now, we are going to enjoy it. We are 5-2. We have a great opponent coming into our house before the bye week next week.”

On the season, Mayfield has completed 63.1 percent of his pass attempts for 1,392 yards, 15 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. This week marks the second time he's been named the AFC Player of the Week, with the first time coming in a Week 16 win vs. the Bengals in 2018.
