Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski among team members who received false-positive COVID-19 test results

Stefanski says several Browns players are still waiting for their results after being re-tested.

BEREA, Ohio — In this out-of-the-ordinary time of COVID-19, Sunday was a truly bizarre day around the NFL, including with the Cleveland Browns.

It began with the Browns being among the teams to halt operations at their facility after NFL officials received "several positive tests from each of the clubs serviced by the same laboratory in New Jersey," during Saturday's daily COVID-19 testing. It ended after players, coaches and staff that tested positive within the Browns organization were re-tested and the results came back negative.

In between were anxious moments for several members of the organization, including head coach Kevin Stefanski, who was among those who initally tested positive.

"It wasn't fun. I can laugh about it now, but it wasn't fun to get that phone call in the morning and then not get the news that it was potentially an error until later," Stefanski told reporters during a Zoom conference on Monday.

Several players are still waiting to get their results back, according to Stefanski.

"I will tell you that our organization mobilized immediately, got on top of it, followed the protocols, and ultimately it was a fire drill," added Stefanski. "It was a great reminder that we have to trust our protocols and make sure we're doing things the right way."

The Browns are continuing training camp practice on Monday as the prepare for the season opener in Baltimore on September 13.
