If Browns fans didn’t check their calendars when they woke up this morning, tight end David Njoku was quick to remind them with a joke of his own to mark April 1, also known as April Fool's Day.
Njoku tweeted out that he had instructed his representation to seek a trade for his services after he was franchise tagged by the Browns earlier this offseason. In the past, he has requested a trade away from the Browns after the signing of tight end Austin Hooper during the 2020 offseason, but ultimately stuck it out with the team.
Njoku later followed up his trade request tweet with a clarification, saying that this was just an April Fool’s Day joke.
The tweet did spark at least one response from a member of the Browns ownership group, as JW Johnson had words for the tight end via Twitter.
This isn’t the only news involving Njoku today, as it was then later reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the Browns and Njoku are working on a contract extension that would keep him in Cleveland for the foreseeable future.
Rapoport stated that talks are active, and there is confidence that the Browns and Njoku will be able to reach a deal by the July 15 deadline to do so.
Njoku is entering his sixth season with the Browns after being selected in the first round by the team in the 2017 NFL Draft.
