CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is a man of many talents and many interests, and that includes watching the hit HBO television program, Game of Thrones, which is now in its eighth and final season.
In preparation for the upcoming series finale later this spring, Garrett took to Twitter Thursday to let his followers about his plans for the big sendoff.
“I want to do a watch party for the last episode of GoT, not sure where yet,” Garrett tweeted. “Everyone’s invited and pictures welcomed. I think that’d be fun.”
Garrett’s initial tweet drew nearly 200 comments, 250 retweets and more than 3,500 likes.
Based on one suggestion from a follower, the watch party will feature a cosplay competition, where fans can dress up as their favorite characters and the ones chosen as the best male and female characters will get an autographed jersey.
Fans wanting to participate in the competition will pay a $3 entry fee and the funds raised will benefit the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, which is working to create a future without breast cancer through education and advocacy.
Garrett’s watch party is the latest example of the popularity of “Game of Thrones” within the Browns’ locker room.
The Browns celebrated the “Game of Thrones” premiere last month by posting a photo of quarterback Baker Mayfield in a period-piece costume worn by the Viking characters in the show.
Ironically, the premiere of “Game of Thrones’” final season coincided with Mayfield’s 24th birthday, and the tweet, which read, “The Prince who was promised,” drew more than 2,500 retweets and 13,000 likes in the first few hours of its posting.
“The Prince” went from a two-time walk-on at Texas Tech and Oklahoma to Heisman Trophy winner and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Unlike previous quarterbacks, Mayfield lived up to the hype in a record-setting way.
After taking over the first-team offense in the second quarter of a Week 3 win over the New York Jets, Mayfield completed 310 of his 486 attempts (63.8 percent) for 3,725 yards and an NFL rookie-record 27 touchdowns against 14 interceptions.
Under the direction of new Browns coach Freddie Kitchens, the interim offensive coordinator for the second half of the 2018 season, Mayfield completed 180 of his 263 attempts (68.4 percent) for 2,254 yards and 19 touchdowns against eight interceptions.
No word yet on if Mayfield will don a costume and attend the party.
