Game preview
While the start of the Browns' 2021 season is highly anticipated, the same can't necessarily be said of Cleveland's preseason opener. Earlier this week, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed that the majority of the team's starters -- including quarterback Baker Mayfield -- won't be playing against the Jaguars on Saturday.
But while the bulk of players taking the field for Cleveland against Jacksonville will be reserves, there will be plenty of notable Browns to keep an eye on, including 2021 second-round pick Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. After missing the start of training camp due to COVID-19 protocols, the former Notre Dame linebacker will have a chance to make a statement against the Jaguars and potentially enter the mix for a starting spot in Cleveland's linebacking corps.
What's more is that Jacksonville possesses no shortage of storylines, between the unofficial NFL debuts of head coach Urban Meyer and quarterback Trevor Lawrence, as well as the return of former quarterback Tim Tebow, who is now playing tight end. If nothing else, the Jaguars should be one of the NFL's must-watch teams this season and it's the Browns who will serve as their first unofficial opponent.
