When Ronnie Harrison left the Cleveland Browns' 27-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday with an unspecified shoulder injury, it served as yet another hit to a secondary already depleted by injury.
On Monday, the Browns made a move to add reinforcements to the backend of their defense, claiming safety Tedric Thompson off waivers.
Thompson had spent his first eight games of the 2020 season as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs before being waived on Saturday. In eight appearances, the 25-year-old safety tallied 13 tackles -- 11 of which were solo stops.
Prior to signing with Kansas City this past offseason, Thompson spent the first three years of his NFL career as a member of the Seattle Seahawks. In 29 regular-season games -- including 16 starts -- he totaled 80 tackles, five pass defenses, three interceptions and one forced fumble.
In coming to Cleveland, Thompson joins a Browns defense that has dealt with injuries throughout the 2020 season, particularly in its season. Prior to Harrison's injury on Sunday, Sheldrick Redwine has been ruled out of Cleveland's Week 12 contest due to a knee injury, while Karl Joseph had missed time due to a hamstring injury and rookie Grant Delpit had been ruled out of the year after suffering an Achilles tear in the preseason.
In addition to the Browns' safeties, cornerback Greedy Williams (shoulder) has yet to appear in a game this season and Denzel Ward is currently out with a calf strain. Sitting at 8-3 on the season, Cleveland will return to action on Sunday when it faces the Tennessee Titans (8-3) on the road.
