Cleveland Browns claim WR Marvin Hall off waivers

The Cleveland Browns have claimed former Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Hall off of waivers.

CLEVELAND — One day after beating the Tennessee Titans to advance to 9-3, the Cleveland Browns bolstered their receiving corps by claiming former Detroit Lions wideout Marvin Hall off of waivers.

Appearing in 11 games with the Lions this season, the 5-foot-10 Hall tallied career highs of 17 receptions for 290 yards and two touchdowns before being waived by Detroit this past weekend. After going undrafted out of Washington in 2016, Hall caught 12 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns in two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before landing with the Lions ahead of the 2019 season.

While Hall may not possess prolific numbers, his speed -- he ran a reported 4.28 40-yard dash at his pro day in 2016 -- could add a new dynamic to a Cleveland receiving corps that's battled injuries throughout the 2020 season. With Odell Beckham Jr. already out for the season with a torn ACL, the Browns receivers suffered another setback last week when KhaDarel Hodge (hamstring) and Taywan Taylor (neck) were each forced to miss Cleveland's victory over the Titans with injuries.

Despite only having three active wide receivers on their roster, the Browns still managed to beat Tennessee by a score of 41-35, with all three of Cleveland's wideouts -- Jarvis Landry, Donovan Peoples-Jones and Rashard Higgins -- catching touchdowns from quarterback Baker Mayfield. With the win, the Browns clinched their first winning season since 2007 and remain in pole position to end the NFL's longest active playoff drought (17 years).
