Cleveland Browns designate safety Grant Delpit to return from injured reserve

Cleveland Browns' safety Grant Delpit missed the final four regular season games of the year after having surgery to repair a torn groin muscle.

CLEVELAND — As the Cleveland Browns prepare to take on the Houston Texans on Saturday in the AFC Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs, one of the team's standouts could be returning.

On Wednesday, the Browns announced that safety Grant Delpit has been designated for return from injured reserve. While this doesn't necessarily mean Delpit will be active on Saturday, it is an encouraging sign.

Just days after agreeing to a three-year contract extension, Delpit was injured during the Browns' win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14. Delpit missed the final four games of the regular season after having surgery to repair a torn groin muscle.

Prior to being placed on injured reserve, Delpit tallied 63 solo tackles (7 for loss), an interception, four QB hits, and a fumble recovery in 13 games.

Last week, Delpit was selected as an alternate for the Pro Bowl.

If Delpit is active for Saturday, this could be huge news for the top-ranked Cleveland Browns' defense as they open the postseason against the Texans and rookie QB sensation C.J. Stroud.

In addition, the Browns also announced on Wednesday that they signed CB Kalon Barnes to the practice squad. The Baylor product is in his second NFL season and has spent time this season on the practice squads of the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets.
