How do Cleveland Browns fans feel about recent violent incidents at other NFL stadiums?

While the league has been beset by fan-involved fights in recent weeks, those we spoke to say violence isn't a major issue at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

CLEVELAND — It's the latest episode of NFL football fans behaving badly.

This time, it was on "Thursday Night Football where the San Francisco 49ers were hosting the New York Giants, with the brawl in the stands rather than on the field.  There was hitting and hair pulling, and a woman's wig even flew off.

Last week in New England, there was a fight between Patriots fans and Miami Dolphin fans. One man purportedly involved in the altercation later died, although officials believe his death may have been cased by a "medical issue."

On Sunday, Browns fans were delighted to see a win, but disappointed this mayhem continues. Thankfully, however, they don't see much of it in Cleveland.

"It would be terrible," one woman said. "Thankfully, we see none of it ."

In a statement regarding the recent issues, the NFL said, "Our top priority is the safety of the more than one million fans who attend games each week. We deplore the activities of a handful of fans who interfere with the enjoyment of others."

On their website, the Browns say these (amongst many others) are considered "unacceptable behavior" for fans:

  • "Behavior that is socially unacceptable, offensive, unruly or illegal in nature."
  • "Using or displaying foul or inflammatory language or gestures."
  • "Verbal or physical harassment of opposing team’s fans."

The team adds, "Stadium staff will strive to maintain an atmosphere where all fans in attendance can enjoy the event free from the above behaviors. Event patrons and guests in violation of these provisions will be subject to ejection, arrest and loss of ticket privileges for future events."

As Clevelanders watch all this fan violence from afar,  some would like to see the NFL take more action.

"They need to stop that, because it takes away from the game," one fan told us.

"It needs to be a nice, family friendly environment," another man added.

According to the NFL, there were 80 brawls in 32 games across the first two weeks of the season. While the league says that number is down from a year ago, they also stress any violence between fans at games will not be tolerated.
